Live Within Your Means.

Live Within Your Means.

By Dickson Tumuramye

The trinity semester starts shortly after some students have just completed Easter/Jan. semester. This sometimes may seem costly on the side of the parents who within a short period of time are again paying your tuition fee.

This time it has been worsened by the delayed rains and parents whose income largely depends on agriculture are more affected. This  could mean that you may not get expected full support from your parents/guardians. Other students depend on assistance from sponsors/donors, well-wishers, church, financial aid office etc.

You may not be in the above category where things don't work out well for some. You parents could be able to provide whatever you put on your list. What I can tell you is that you are very lucky. Whatever the case, there is still need to remember to live within your means.

There are students who like to show off, others want to pretend to be from rich families and live beyond their semester budget. Some have become burdens to their parents but parents have no option but to endure for the sake of your education. You may need to review your semester expenditure habits. If you are not able to live within your means, just know that you are killing your future.

To live within your means is that you are spending more money than you can afford. If someone is living within their means, they are not spending more money than they can afford. Or what you spend each month is less than or at least equal to the amount of money you bring in each month. For many people, it's a lot easier said than done.

Ways of living in our means can include, make and stick to your budget, avoid peer pressure, avoid drinking and hanging out alot. Don't sleep in every club within and beyond Mukono. Don't get a girl/boyfriend when you know you are not ready for any relationship. A man can never sustain a relationship where there is no spending.

Campus girls like chips and chicken, pork, nice places like Cafe Javas, Cafe Pora etc and a girlfriend rarely feels comfortable to go to such places alone without her friends. If you are not ready to vomit cash in making her happy, just relax in the Lord.

Don't eat from canteens everyday when UCU dinning serves nice food. Learn to save the little from your pocket money and think about investing it in business. Don't think that businesses start with alot of money. Start small and grow with time. Don't buy expensive clothes or shoes when actually you can get alot with little money from the Kiko market in Mukono town on Tuesdays.

Always avoid too much excitement that can drive you into spending the little you have. Above all, Jesus Christ is a man that fulfills our heart's desire. Psalm 37:4 "Delight yourself in the Lord and He will satisfy your heart's desires/needs." If you are not yet born again, this is your time, today is your day to accept Him as a Leader and Savior of your life.
