Happy Birthday, Akampa Dickson Tumuramye

On Sunday, April 15, 2012, we hosted Dr. Ken and Dr. Kim Denorvesk with other USA friends. By midday, they had arrived home, and they left late in the evening. We last met in November 2010 when they came to our giveaway and wedding functions. This time around, we had a lot to catch up on.

With all the excitement and enjoyable moments, we had with our visitors, we retired to bed early. On Monday at around 5 a.m., there was a strange pain that my wife complained about, and we realized that it was time to head to Mulago Hospital. We were checked into at Mulago Hospital that morning. The experience I can never forget is what happened on Monday night between 11 p.m. and 7:15 a.m.

We were taken to the labour ward, and my dear, someone kept telling me, “I feel there is too much heat here; come and massage me.” I would feel the heat in my hands, and someone would claim that I was not doing much. I need to increase the pace and massage the whole back. Luckily enough, I had friends like Susan Ekadu and Apophia Kwihanga. We did this in turn, but of course, I had a big share of it.

Lastly, this lady requested to sit down for a short call, and the nurses told her not to worry but to do it on her bed. The language was push push push, and you are getting there. Then, I saw a lovely baby out. "He is a boy," the nurse shouted.

It was all joy for me and my wife. We believed in God for a baby boy. We had refused to go for a scan to check the sex before. Every time we visited for antenatal visits, we made it clear to the Gynaecologist not to reveal the child’s sex.

That Tuesday morning of April 17, 2012, was special for the Tumuramyes. We started a parenting journey. It is now been 11 years, and we say, Ebenezer that God gave us Akampa Dickson Tumuramye. He is a man full of stories from childhood. He calls himself Mr. Idea Man. He was the first president of the Tumuramye government. He is now the manager of Blessed Band. He is good at organizing family comedy events. I wish my son a very wonderful birthday.

We would like to thank the Dernovseks for their visit. It came with good news and left memories forever. To all of you who have been praying for us, and especially Dickson, may God reward you abundantly.
